It’s that time of year again.
Excitement and anxiety run through your veins as you prepare for the beginning of another year.
You’re probably going to ring in the new year with the ones you love and set some goals that you’re certain you’ll accomplish by the end of 2020.
Become a better person. Eat healthy. Exercise more. Further your education. Spend less. Save towards a house. The list goes on and on.
New Year’s Day is my favourite time of the year because it forces me to reflect on the previous year and make plans for a better year going forward. However, you and I are probably in the same boat. We create these lofty goals and, midway through January, give up on them entirely.
I have a secret to share with you. There’s a way for you to set and accomplish those goals. I’ve dubbed it the #GoalGetter Visioning Strategy. Here’s how it works.
Write it Down
This is the season for vision board parties and all those fancy, over the top goal setting techniques. I am not knocking those strategies, but I feel that simplicity is key if you want the best chance for success. All you need is a pen and a blank sheet of paper to take those goals out of your mind and give them a voice.
Position It Somewhere That Matters
I have often felt that it’s enough to keep a mental note of my goals. They’re in my head so I should be motivated to accomplish them daily right?
It doesn’t work that way. The goals that you’ve written need to prominently positioned so that you’re reminded about them daily. There is power in daily visualization.
Use Rewards and Consequences
You stand a better chance of accomplishing your goals if they are broken down into smaller actionable steps that are pegged to some rewards or consequences. If you accomplish that small task, reward yourself. If you don’t, apply the consequence. Find a Community of Support
One of the greatest challenges with goal setting is that we often attempt to do it alone.
