Move to the Zumba Beat!

Am I the only person who rolls her eyes and takes a deep breath whenever the word “exercise” is mentioned? Uggghhhh! Do I really have to? Then I met Zumba.

My friends always get a good laugh when I start dancing, but I’m proud to say that I have no shame! Turn on a Jamaican dance song, like Genna Bounce, and I head straight for the dance floor.  Dancing gives me life!

I’ve often heard about Zumba, but never had the opportunity to try it. Thankfully, I got the opportunity  in May when I went to a Zumba studio in Mandeville ,called Ishia Zumba, with my coworkers. Here’re some benefits I got from the session.

It’s a WORK OUT!

The session lasted for an hour. Fifteen minutes in, I felt the burn in my calves and thighs. I was sweating like crazy at the end. It was an authentic workout, but I was having so much fun that I didn’t even realize.

Fun is the Main Ingredient

Keeping up with the instructor can sometimes be challenging. However, the moves gave me that va va voom feeling. I felt my inner “hot gyal” coming out and I loved it!

My Dance Skills (Or Lack Thereof) Were on Full Display

This may not necessarily be considered a benefit to some, but it was for me. I looked at the mirror in front and identified areas in the routine where my coordination was a bit off. I kept up with all the moves for the most part. However, seeing areas for improvement inspired me to try to get my dancing on point. Strange, but true.

If dancing is your thing and you want to maintain an active lifestyle, try Zumba. People living in Mandeville can visit the Ishia Zumba Studio Mondays to Thursdays from 5pm to 7pm for general classes. There are several packages available so speak with the owner to learn more.
